Code of Conduct
Code of Conduct for Elected Members, Committee Members and Candidates
The presence of local government plays a crucial role in providing essential services and infrastructure to the community. Those aspiring to or currently serving as members of local Councils and Council Committees carry the responsibility of representing local perspectives, making informed decisions, and efficiently managing public funds to ensure the delivery of services and amenities. Consequently, community members entrust these individuals with the expectation of upholding a commendable level of professional and ethical conduct, applicable not only to current Council and Committee members but also to candidates participating in local government elections.
The Code of Conduct serves as a framework to direct the decisions, conduct and behaviors of members, whether they are serving on the Council, Council Committees, or are candidates vying for a Council position. It mandates that members adhere to the stipulations outlined in the Code of Conduct while fulfilling their duties and responsibilities within the Council and on Council Committees, as specified by the Local Government Act 1995.

The Code is complementary to principles adopted in the Local Government Act 1995 and regulations which incorporates four fundamental aims to result in:
- better decision-making by local governments;
- greater community participation in the decisions and affairs of local governments;
- greater accountability of local governments to their communities; and
- more efficient and effective local government.
